Phew ! Keep on keepin’ on !
July 16th, 2009
Well, today has been hard work. I have been bringing all the strands of my new “Profit Pulling Platform” together. In keeping with yesterday’s post about being stupid about something, today my subconscious mind chose to give me temporary dyslexia. I was setting up the FTP for my new domain and for some reason, I kept mis-reading my notes, so that I kept entering the password incorrectly.
I spent a-g-e-s rekeying the same error, thinking “Well, there it is in black and white: that’s what I set it to on the control panel and that’s what I’m typing in to Filezilla … WHY isn’t it working ? ! ?”
Maybe it was Filezilla itself. A fellow-student mentioned on the Marketing With Alex forum that she’d had issues and I had recommended FireFTP, which is a plugin for the Firefox browser that is widely used. And guess what …
That didn’t work either ! But for a different reason: I couldn’t get the thing to even start up ! Something to do with an incompatible Firefox theme … which is strange, because I was using the default theme. Or so I thought ! For some reason, it doesn’t seem to be installed properly.
In the end, I reverted to the old fashioned command-line prompt. Died-in-the-wool techies will know what I’m talking about. If you don’t, then don’t worry: you do NOT want to go there !
And of course, it worked … which made me wonder what was different in Filezilla. And eventually, after a break for coffee, I came back and looked at it and found the one character difference between the password that I had actually set, and the one that I had been entering, over and over again !
Anyway, I’m not quite as far along as I meant to be by now, but I’m close, which is why this post is titled the way it is
After reminding myself why I was doing all of this !
Which brings me back to the “PPP”. Strangely, the most difficult thing about this so far has been choosing a name … in the end, I chose two and then thought that a couple of variants might be useful too. I don’t know if anybody will be doing this, but I thought that it might be fun to actually duplicate the PPP with a slightly different set-up under a different domain name. BUt if I do decide to try that, it won’t be for a while yet.
The domain name ?
Ah, you’ll have to wait and see !
Meantime, we have another call tonight, which means another late night in the UK. But I’m sure it will be interesting. Looking forward to catching you all there …

Hey Roger, enjoyed reading your last post. It really hits home to me because I have a tendancy to all caught up trying to do something like you described and pretty soon I find I’ve been at a couple hours or even more.
I need to take another page from Alex, “get a timer”, “don’t be a busy fool”.
Today I actually started a search for an outsource for an ebook I have a hankering to write, only I don’t have time to do the research it would take.
I think I’ve got the tech stuff down ok now are far as uploads, downloads, FTP things, working with an html editor.
I have to admit I enjoy all that stuff especially when something I am trying to do finally comes out like I planned it. But all that busy work is not making me any money now is it?
Looking forward to tomorrow, just because it’s got to hold something more to learn and apply. By the way I talked with you on a forum about the open earlier today, in case you didn’t remember me.
Hi Norm – I guess another one of my favourite sayings is “Begin with the end in mind” and when we’re working on all the technical details, that’s what we need to remember: that the end is to provide something of value to people. See you on the forum
Hey Roger,
Love your writing style, you come across really naturally and you can get a great feelijg of what you’re writing about from your posts.
Look forward to reading more.
Cheers,
Paul
(Blush !) Thanks Paul. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but it doesn’t come easily, so it’s nice to hear that people like what eventually comes out. (And it comes as something of a surprise too !)
