Keeping track of blogs
July 31st, 2009
Well, in his latest training webinar last night, Alex encouraged us very strongly to view and comment upon our fellow students’ blogs. If you’re finding it difficult to keep track of all of the blogs you’re interested in, you may find this video useful.
It’s my first and I’m happy to admit that it’s a little “rough and ready”, but I hope that it proves useful – please let me know whether it helps.

Hi Roger,
I found your video most informative and I watched it all – which is unusual for me, especially when I see that it goes for 9:36. I don’t like them much over 5 minutes. You come across very well and explain it all in an easy to understand manner.
I’m gonna have a shot at using that i-Google facility when I log in next.
Well done.

Thanks Roger, very good informative video. I’ve actually been using google reader, but I think I like the way you’ve just shown better. So I think I’ll add them to the google homepage in future.
Cheers!
Paul.
Many thanks for sharing this. Does this help with your page rankings on Google?
Not sure if it does Peter … but now that you mention this, I hope so !
Nice video, Roger. Very informative, I didn’t know about that feature of Google and may give it a try although I am partial to using bookmarks.
Cheers,
Rod
Hi Roger,
thanks for your video well done and informative.
Cheers
Ron
Hi Rog,
I agree with the others – a well made video and useful content to keep track of blogs, and also other tabs can be added for different categories of sites.
Keep making videos and you should do well.
Thanks
Keith

Hey Roger
Great video excellent content. Thank you so very much. As I am trying to learn as much as possible, I have also tried to respond to my fellow students with any tidbits of wisdom? Until I saw your video I would write down the names of the blogs I visited and left comments on to see what the reaction was. ( A little unsure of myself) This is a great way to track blogs. One question, when we add new tabs do we go tab1 tab2 etc?
Thanks
Glenn
Hi Rog,
I have been using the same old standalone for years. I never gave much attention to all the bells whistles before, so thank for pointing out this feature. I’ll give Google homepage a try and see how it goes.

Hi Glenn – glad you like it. You can name your tabs anything you want AND you can also edit their names later if you feel the need. When a tab is “live” (i.e. it’s the one you’re looking at), float your mouse over it and you’ll see a little “down arrow” next to its name. Choose Edit and you’ll find attributes of the tab that you can change, one of which is its name. This is also where you would delete the tab if you wanted to. Hope that helps
Killer video in my book!
Nice, easy, super valuable.
Way to go Rog
Great video, Roger!
I was wondering how you managed to keep track of all the students’ blogs fro your Blog of the Day award. Now it’s clear!
Jose
Hi Roger,
Excellent video and clear instructions on how to keep track of blogs. You talk about the RSS icon appearing the the address bar, but I notice so far it’s not appearing in Google Chrome or in IE8. Only Firefox and Opera appear to have this option. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this.
John
Hi John, glad that you found it useful. Personally, I don’t use Internet Explorer unless I absolutely have to (and even then, I stick to IE6 !), so I must admit that I hadn’t noticed this omission. But I am surprised that Chrome doesn’t show it. I guess these are all reasons to make sure that your Wordpress theme has some kind of invitation to subscribe in a prominent position.
As usual, everybody does their own thing and de facto standards only emerge over a lengthy period of time.
All the best,
Roger
good job Roger!
Actually I’m already doing this but by using Google Reader.
Thanks Syed – since I made that video, I have now looked at Google Reader a little and I can see that it’s good in a different kind of way. I guess I was attracted to the home page idea because I was already using it for other stuff too, so it fitted naturally.
Best wishes,
Roger
That’s a nice trick…and I would say a good first attempt at a video. I managed to get here from the MWY forum.
Thanks Evan – I am planning to do a lot more in the future and with that in mind, I posted one a couple of days ago.
Thanks for dropping by
All the best,
Roger
