Facebook – it’s fantastic, but …

July 20th, 2009

Folks, a quick “extra” post tonight …

As a member of Alex Jeffreys’ Marketing With Alex 2.0 coaching program, I’m very lucky in being able to connect with lots of people like me that are taking advantage of the fast-track that’s Alex’s coaching provides. One of the channels we’re using to connect is Facebook.

Now, I have to confess, I’m a real novice with social networking. Twitter is something of a mystery at this point (though I will be getting to grips with it very soon). But since I have access to the Facebook addresses of several of my fellow students, I figured that I ought to sign up.

After sending friend-requests to my fellow-students, I left my PC for a while. I returned to it about an hour later and I was amazed to discover how quickly my contacts had grown. And I can see how that growth can be magnified very rapidly.

But it has reminded me of a story that I read a week or so back. Basically, it seems that Facebook can use your profile pics in ads that they display to other members. Check out this story, to find out what one guy saw one day when he logged on to Facebook !

Meantime, if you want to be my friend on Facebook, you can find me here.

Awesome! Glad I could be of assistance! LOL… you were my 100th friend on Facebook as well… though another friend threatened to “de-friend” me to drop me back when I bragged about it!

    Talk to you soon!

    Peace,
    Alan

I missed tonight’s webinar – I was spending some quality time with the family tonight! =D

Was their talking about social media?

  3. Roger

Alan, great to chat with you tonight. Don’t worry about your other “friend” dropping you … just look forward to the next 100 !

Hi Alex – yeah, there was a little talk about social media stuff, but it was mainly about blogging. We will get much more from Alex on social media in the next few weeks. I’m really looking forward to that as it’s an area that I need to catch up in !

Hope that you enjoyed your quality time – always a good idea :-)

    Hey Roger,

Great post! You’ve already seen that I’ve passed the Facebook story on…

Don’t worry about being a Social Networking novice – it’ll soon all fall into place.

    Blog bookmarked!

    Iain.

Hi Iain, yeah, it was an interesting story. And I am looking forward to getting to grips with the social networking stuff. See you “on the wall” ;-)

    Hey Roger,

I find myself using Facebook less and less these days. I usually log in once a day to check my friend’s timelines etc but that’s more out of habit than necessity. I use Twitter far more than anything else these days.

I saw that Facebook scandal on Iain’s timeline earlier today and made the changes to my own account pretty sharpish. Really cheeky, I think and just another reason why I am losing interest in that site as a whole.

    Keep in touch.

    David

    Hi Roger,

When I saw this post about Facebook, I had to read it! I am echoing David’s comments about not spending very much time on Facebook anymore-I really only check to see when friends post new photos, or something. I was blown away by the story that you have mentioned. WOW-I’m heading over to FB now to fix my profile & I have you to thank for that! All of this social media stuff is relatively new to me…old dog, new tricks…you know what I mean. :-) I guess I’ll need to check out what Twitter is all about, before too long!
    Take care, Roger!
    Joann

    Hello everyone

Social media works great for me but I made the best results with tweeter. I am only in facebook if somebody adds me to his/her friendlist. I don’t know why but i don’t get familiar with facebook. And I dislike this webpage.

hope to speak to you soon in alex forum or at twitter (or even at facebook ;-) if you like

    To your Success
    Fabienne

Fabienne, thanks for stopping by. I am going to look out for you on Twitter and Facebook, so I’ll see you there !

    All the best,

    Roger

    Hi Roger,

I like your idea about Facebook, that just seems to tie in nicely with social media marketing. And there’s so much of it only today. I see it as a relationship builder, where you can personalize it with your own photos and some funny threads.

Get blog BTW, this is my first time here, but I will be back.

    Take care,
    Karen

Hi Karen, you’re right, there are SO many different avenues, many of which I haven’t heard of. I am really keen to hear what Alex says about social media at our next webinar. At this stage in my learning, I figure that it’s all got to be about getting people to a place where you can start to build a relationship with them, like your blog, one of your web sites, or a mailing list.

Which reminds me to say “welcome” to my blog and thanks for stopping by ;-)

BTW, you’ve reminded me about something I heard on the radio yesterday and I’m going to make a quick post about it now !

    All the best,

    Roger
