The whole BOTD concept works so well on many different levels - 1) It has us visiting your site regularly if not daily to see who's won. 2) You give a great write-up and reasoning so we can see what other people are doing. 3) We head on over to the blogs that you recommend. 4) As winners of the award, people can proudly display in on their site - which gives a boost to the winner and will bring traffic back to you. You say that there are only two more awards left as you were doing BOTD for the duration of Alex's blog traffic comp. May I suggest that you continue running it?
