Announcing “Blog Of The Day”
August 1st, 2009
Where does the time go ? Was it really two days ago that Alex Jeffreys announced his traffic competition for students of Marketing With Alex 2.0 ?
He asked us to blog about what we would do to attempt to win his prize and one idea came to me pretty soon the next day. But it’s taken me until today to get to the point where I can announce it, so here goes …
For each day of the competition, I will be awarding the rog-blog.com Blog Of The Day badge.

My criteria will be totally subjective and I readily admit, may not admit to any logic ! It might be that I really like the design, or a picture or a video on the blog. It needn’t necessarily be an all-singing, all-dancing, bells and whistle kind of blog either. It may be that I just like the content of a post, or the debate evolving through comments on a particular post. It may be a particularly useful or helpful post. Or it may be something else entirely, which hasn’t even occurred to me yet !
Whilst Alex’s competition is running, I’ll make a post announcing that day’s winner for Blog Of The Day. Alerts that an award has been made will be “tweeted” at twitter.com/rogblog and posted on my Facebook page, facebook.com/rogblog.
Winners will have earned the right to place the exclusive rog-blog.com Blog Of The Day badge on their blog, with a link back to their citation. They will also take their place on the Blog Of The Day Roll of Honour.
At the end of the competition, I’ll choose one blog as the rog-blog.com Blog of Blogs, which will have its own special badge, a truly unique marque of quality and distinction.
And because I’m a little late with this, tomorrow I will be announcing not one but three winners, one for each of the days since Alex made the announcement.
So if you want to see your name on the Roll of Honour, get blogging !
PS: At my discretion, I may also award the rog-blog.com Commendable Comment award to any student making a particularly useful, insightful, witty, helpful or otherwise laudable comment to a blog post on a fellow student’s blog. Yes, I’ll probably do a special badge for that too
PPS: No promises here, but I will see if my expenses run to the award of some kind of prize for the ultimate winner too, although it’s not likely to be huge !
PPPS: If you are having trouble keeping track of all these blogs, remember to check out the technique I outlined here that I think makes it a lot easier.
PPPPS: Alex, this is not gonna be the only thing I will do for the competition, there will be other things too, so come back often for more … lol !

Are “:PPPPS’s” allowed. Isn’t there a penalty for surpassing the allowable amount of consecutive P’s?
Looking forward to seeing your choices, Roger and splendid idea!!
Cheers,
Rod
Rog,
By any chance are you a member of Toastmasters. Seems like you’ve got awards and recognition down pat.
Love the rog/blog/logo idea too.
Cheers,
Rob
Hi Rog,
cracking idea, look forward to seeing how it pans out,
later
Guy.
you are creative! something to learn from.. hmm…
1Q, 1issue on your blog
Q: how to “enter” your “competition”?
Issue: your Blog Of The Day badge does not display on my screen.. using chrome.
Hi Shirley – I was going to write about how to “enter”, but I will say something about it here anyway.
There is no formal application process, but for the most part, I will be going from the list of blogs set up for the “widlink” widget that we were told about when we started. Students of Alex that have not done so yet should get Garry Parkes to add their name and blog URL to that list by posting in the relevant thread in the “Welcome” topic of the forum. Of course, interesting posts from our forum are likely to send me to people’s blogs too.
On the logo not showing, thanks for the heads up. I have been plagued by problems with getting images to show on my blog, and this is another. Naturally, I looked on my browser (Linux with Firefox) and it seems OK, but if I click on the title of the blog post, so that this is the only thing I see (rather than the whole front page), then I only get the “alt” text.
There will probably be another blog post about that soon if I can’t work it out. If anybody can help me on that, I’d be very glad to hear from your as I am being “stupid” about it at the moment
Roger,
First off, thanks for sticking with me on the issue of moving customer to a different mailiing list. For those of you who want to learn how we finally learned how to do it (and why a community is a powerful thing) either go to the forum and lookup the thread started by spidersilver on the topic or go to http://www.gilscorner.com
The more I read your blog, the more I’m impressed. You’re adding tremendous value and I’m following you closely.
What you’ve done with this little idea is huge – I’m sure a lot of people will come back to your blog often to see what’s what. Talk about stickiness!
Now I just need to tap into my creative side and see what comes out (but I’m not sure it’s there
Hi, Roger,
I like your idea about awarding most successful bloggers.
About making videos.I thought that Maria Andros is using the camcorder and already bought one.
Is a Camtasia or camStudioPro the real tool to make videos?
Anatoly, you’re ahead of me ! I am slightly ashamed to confess that I still haven’t seen Maria’s session yet, even though it’s nearly a week on since Alex released it. As I said in my Camtasia or CamStudioPro post, by drawing attention to these two products, I might be barking up the wrong tree, and from what you have said, it sounds like I am !
But as far as I can tell Camtasia & CamStudioPro would be the tools of choice for recording your desk-top, which is basically what I have done with my videos earlier this week. As I said in the second of those, I was lucky enough to be able to pick up a copy of a down-level version of the former a few years ago and it is very nice, although I have probably only used 10% of its capabilities. CamStudioPro seems to me to do less, but still most of what I’m likely to need. As explained in my second video, I have some minor gripes with it, but the big benefit is its low price. Hope that helps – I look forward to watching your videos !
Hi Roger,
great stuff, would only come from a fellow Alex Jeffrey’s student. See you round,
Michael.
what a great idea.
Love this Blog

Rog
Great idea to drive traffic and reward people for thoughtful, insightful and valuable content and posts. Keep up the good work and hope to feature in your awards some time soon (preferably once I have sorted my header image!!).
